041: What’s Your Election Day Self-Care Plan? [Coffee Chat]

Reading time: 1 minutes.

Happy Tuesday! It’s election day in the United States and with the amount of stress we’ve all been through this year, I want you to think about the things that ground you and bring you to your safe space. Honor your personal boundaries and don’t be afraid to voice them to your immediate circle. This election day, think about the things you can do for yourself to keep you grounded as we find out who our president will be for the next 4 years.

Welcome to Coffee Powered Systems, equipping women with actionable steps to overcome, overwhelm and streamline business and life. So grab your favorite drink and come hang out with me. I'm your host, Miranda Merten. Welcome back to Coffee Powered Systems, happy to say normally today is Tuesday, but today we are having a coffee chat. Now coffee chat is when I just shoot the breeze with you and I have just a quick conversation about something that is going on. And if you are in the United States, you know that today is Election Day here in the US.

And with the amount of stress that we've all been through this year, I want you to think about the things that ground you and bring you to your safe space. This election cycle has been tumultuous, to say the least. Opinions have been out there. People are divisive. And with 2020 thrown in the mix, it has not made it any easier. So as we go into the rest of the day and the next few days and beyond, I want you to come back to your safe space.

Think about the things that you do to relax. What do you do to make yourself feel good? My CBD gummies came in just in time, so that's going to help with any anxious feelings. Do you like to meditate? Think about therapy, reading, movement of some kind. What is your Election Day self care plan? I want you to think about that and think about the different things that you can do to wind down as we go into this night.

If Election Day for you is like the Super Bowl and you just love sitting there and watching all the numbers come in and you're not super stressed out about it, that could be yourself care. Right.

But for a lot of people I know a lot of people are super stressed out. This time in general is just not good for them. It doesn't necessarily have to be related to our current candidates on either side of the party. This is every four years. Everyone gets a little stressed out during this time. And let's face it, half of the country is always going to be not happy. The other half is going to be happy that their candidate won.

So as we go into the rest of this week, as we go into today, tonight, I want you to surround yourself with the positive people in your life. You know who they are, call them up, hang out with them if that's safely possible. Honor your personal boundaries and don't be afraid to voice them to your immediate circle. You don't have to talk politics. You can stay away from it. You can say that you are not getting into it.

You want to protect yourself, remove yourself from social media if necessary. Don't completely engulf yourself in the news stories and the rhetoric that comes along with news stories. When it comes time to wind down, maybe turn on your favorite music, light some candles, watch your favorite Netflix shows, whatever you do and whatever it takes to ease your mind. That's what I want you to focus on today. So in the next couple of days, if your person does win, that also doesn't give you the green light to go troll people who voted for the other candidate.

Remember to be nice to each other. The country is always going to be divided, respect each other's opinions and take care of yourself.

So Friday we might or maybe not have a decision of who our president will be for the next four years. And that is the next time I will be speaking with you. Take care of yourself, wind down, relax, and I'll see you on Friday.
